NAVIGATING TRANS-ATLANTIC TOURING: BRIDGING THE NORTH AMERICAN AND EUROPEAN MARKETS
14H00 > 15H30
CABARET

Open to the public. Registration at the reception desk.

We see significant collaboration and networks built in the Northern Hemisphere within Europe as well as North America. We want to see stronger bridges built across the Atlantic to facilitate artist discovery, tour coordination, block booking, and penetration into new markets. In this session, masterminds behind Mundial Montreal, North America’s World Music Summit and European Forum of Worldwide Music Festivals compare and contrast the North American vs. European markets and respective networks to see what the two can learn from each other, teach others, and lay the foundation for more organized collaboration on each side of the Atlantic Ocean. Some topics addressed will be: working with agents on both sides of the Atlantic, issues arising from hot WOMEX showcases where everyone on both sides of the Atlantic bid on the same acts (e.g., Orchestra Baobab, DakhaBrakha, Yemen Blues, Pat Thomas), leveraging export offices and public funders, career development strategies, marketplaces such as Babel Med Music, WOMEX, Mundial Montreal, Visa for Music and APAP (globalFEST).

Organized by Mundial Montreal.

SALLE MEDITERRANEE

The reason to step on the world music scene together is to reach a break through in the awareness of the world music performers of these countries on the worldwide scene. This common umbrella brand (CEMS) could initiate the first steps to reach this aim. One of the aims is to start networking with other regions, such as the Mediterranean one. Another one is to design and implement a special touring, themed festival that showcases performers from the region. The objective is twofolded: generate audience for performers within the region for the audience as even within the region performers are not known for the regional audience. The other objective is to stage bands for international professionals, that they can involve them in their line-up.
