A multidisciplinary Kanak artist, Paul Wamo Taneisi is emerging as a champion of Oceania’s oral tradition, whose possessed voice projects the magical songs and trances of New Caledonia in contemporary creation. Perched on a rock overlooking the Pacific, his poetry surfs on island grooves, Kaneka rhythms, tribal rock and Melanesian folk, to blend into the unprecedented beats of the All World. This spoken word from the antipodes palpitates on the tongue of a committed and unconventional haranguing orator, a slammer heir of Frantz Fanon or Edouard Glissant, blowing on the words as if on embers, stirring them up on stage in a great blaze. Poetic and magnetic.
