Avec leurs casquettes, chaussettes et drôles de godillots, les cinq compagnons de cette fanfare méditerranéenne cultivent un univers de jour de fête, ludique et intemporelle. Une musique de rue qui oscille entre folklore imaginaire, hapenning déjanté et improvisations déliées qui claironnent comme une Banda du Sud et fanfaronnent comme une harmonie du Nord. / This Mediterranean band of five epitomises a permanent party time with their unusual caps, flashy socks and strange but merry boots. Their music is tailor-made for the street, as this is where it originates and where it is the most likely to happen. At times full of improvised and loose play they have the capacity to melt their style into a Mediterranean banda’s music and can also sound like one of those warm ensembles from the North of the country.

La troupe déjantée qui bouscule l’idée même de la fanfare. Funk, soul, reggae ou rock, aucun groove ne résiste à Ceux Qui Marchent Debout. Sous ses airs potaches, CQMD se révèle une formidable machine à faire danser, soutenue par une assise rythmique irréprochable mais surtout un esprit de groupe digne des armadas funk des seventies qui dynamitaient tout sur leur passage. Bref, après les avoir vu faire chavirer les salles, on ne parle plus des fanfares de la même manière. / This wild bunch redefines the phrase marching band. From Funk to Reggae with stop-byes such as Rock or Soul, there does not seem to be any groove that they cannot handle. But beware of CQMD’s school boys look, they are in truth an amazing act to send dancing shivers down your spine. The strength of their groove lies in an impeccable rhythmical presence and a spirit akin to the great Funk Armadas from the seventies. Seeing them live will literally reshape anyone’s perception of marching bands.

Groupe de world musique le plus populaire d’Israël, Sheva est un savant mélange de musique méditative et de sonorités ésotériques qui trouvent leur source dans les montagnes de Galilée. Une approche singulière de la musique qui emprunte aux cultures tribales ainsi qu’aux traditions des hébreux et des arabes. Un voyage quasi-mystique, entre prière, méditation et célébration, pour une expérience musicale étonnante. / Apart from being Israel most popular World Music Band, Sheva practise a clever blend of meditative music with esoteric undertones that originate in Galileo. They have a peculiar approach dipping as much into ancient tribal musical tradition as into more usual Hebraic and Arab sounds. This all makes for a close to mystical experience, part prayer, part meditation and part celebration, which can only result in a positively surprising journey.

Délicat tressage de polyphonies et de polyrythmies, lo Còr de la Plana développe une architecture humble faite de voix et de mains nues. Interprétés à l’unisson ou en polyphonies, accompagnés de bendirs ou de percussions corporelles, leurs chants occitans exposent le mystère d’une langue inconnue et proche par le prisme d’une interprétation personnelle et moderne du répertoire provençal. / Lo Còr De La Plana evolves in a simple architecture that consists of plain singing and hand clapping as a musical and harmonic backbone and soul. This gives for a delicate and fascinating intertwining of natural sounds either in polyphony or at unison. The use of the body as sole instrument also makes for a great discovery of an almost unknown and mysterious idiom that renders it strikingly close to the soul of the listeners. It stands for a very intimate delivery of the repertory from Provence.

Samir et Wissam Joubran (Palestinia)

Originaires de Nazareth, en Galilée, Samir et Wissam Joubran, deux des meilleurs joueurs de oud palestiniens interprètent un répertoire qui associe improvisation, compositions personnelles et thèmes traditionnels. Et ce duo envoûte littéralement puis déclenche l’enthousiasme du public par ses arabesques et sa connivence musicale, par ses prestations scéniques placées sous le signe de la paix et de l’espoir d’un monde meilleur. / Samir and Wissam from Nazareth in Galilee are the crème de la crème among Palestinian oud players. Their style consists of improvisations, original tunes and traditional themes that enthrall any public the world around. The complicity between these two musicians and their musical odes compel the public to hope for a more peaceful and better world.

Un des pionniers de la vague salsa à Marseille et un des acteurs incontournables de la scène latina locale, Arlex Campo, natif de Colombie, a cotoyé les plus grands noms du genre. Depuis, à la radio, dans la rue, dans les festivals ou sur les dances-floors, DJ Arlex affole les thermomètres pour faire monter la fièvre à la “sauce marseillaise”. / He was one of the Salsa pioneers and still is one of the tenors of the Latino scene in Marseille. His true name is Alex Campo and he is originally from Colombia where he learnt his craft from the local Salsa’s greatest names. Whether it is on the radio, in the streets, at festivals or in nightclubs, DJ Arlex makes the temperature soar to a Latino fever with a Marseille twist!

Dusminguet expérimente depuis sa création une patchanga généreuse et festive, ce mélange harmonieux et original empruntant aux langues et aux sonorités méditerranéennes toute leur richesse: catalan, espagnol, français, portugais, arabe, reggae, cumbia, cha-cha, samba, rythmes grecques, rumba-merengue, rock et guitares gitanes, ces barcelonais facétieux touchent à tout et surtout à l’universalité de la musique : celle d’un son qui se nourrit avant tout de l’émotion. / Since their inception they have experimented with a generous and festive style of Patchanga Their sound is fraught with the richest and most varied warm chords: from Reggae to Cumbia, Cha-Cha to Samba, Rumba-Merengue to Rock, at times performing in Spanish, Catalan, French, Italian, Portuguese or Arab, this Barcelona-based band literally could do anything from Greek Rhythms to Gypsy guitars and still remain genuinely moving albeit being very broad and varied in flavour.

Synthésis passe en revue tout ce patrimoine extrêmement complexe en utilisant une grande palette des instruments populaires macédoniens : kaval, gaida, zurla, tapan, tarabuka et autres tambura tissent un canevas musical folklorique sur lequel le trio de voix féminines vient se greffer pour créer ce voyage mélancolique et unique auquel nous invite Synthesis. / This female trio immerses you into powerful emotions of the Macedonian musical heritage. Synthesis reviews this entire sophisticated heritage by making use of the main traditional instruments of the place: kaval, gaida, zurla, tapan, tarabuka and tambura. Their feminine voices are like colour to the canvas of these instruments eventually leading to a unique and sweet melancholy, which is an invitation nobody can refuse.

Chanteuse, flûtiste, compositeur, Tamara Obrovac est la plus importante artiste de la scène croate. Vocaliste pluridisciplinaire, elle travaille une forme musicale méditerranéenne à partir de ses sérieuses fondations ethno-jazz. On dit d’elle qu’elle est l’unique poète d’Istrie, sa région d’origine, mais se révèle clairement universelle par ses savantes combinaisons entre traditionnel croate, jazz intemporel et profondeur mystique.

Petrona Martinez s’affiche sans complexe comme la voix afro-américaine la plus authentique des Caraïbes et l’héritière incontestée du “Bullerengue”. Elle chante et danse cette tradition mystérieuse et complexe qui s’inspire des combats des Africains pour s’affranchir de l’esclavagisme. De ces pratiques ancestrales, elle sublime les rythmes profonds et contagieux et offre l’une des facettes les plus vivifiantes du folklore de la côte caribéenne colombienne. / She is the righteously self-proclaimed and most genuine voice of Bullerengue in the whole of the African American and Caribbean community. Bullerengue is a mysterious and complex tradition that draws inspiration from the fight of African man in South America to break free from slavery. Petrona manages to convey the genuine energy that lived in those men and their music to (in the real sense of the term) transcend and spread this ancient tradition whose deep rhythm and soul will compulsively take you to the Caribbean coast of Colombia.

Le leader charismatique Bapi Das Baul hisse le raga de ces ancêtres sur les galops hypnotiques de la drum’n bass en préservant la même teneur spirituelle, mélodique et rythmique. Quand la fusion prolonge la tradition... / This sensational band is in the direct line of such musical ventures as Badmarsh & Shri, Trans Global Underground or Asian Dub Foundation. Senses is inscribed between the Indian Baul tradition and more modern Western sounds. Charismatic frontman Bapi Das Baul takes the ancestral raga he inherited to Drum n’ Bass summits, whilst the band manages to keep a marvelous balance with the spiritual, melodic and rhythmical content of the inherited ancient style. It really is a case of fusion perpetuating tradition.

Une harmonie singulière qui prend ses racines dans la culture juive marocaine, celle où l’on retrouve les réminiscences de chants espagnols, les voix lithurgiques marocaines juives ou le répertoire classique des chansons andalouses. Un projet musical subtil aux frontières de l’émotion. / Three Musicians with their three different instruments and three different idioms, this intimate, yet cross-cultured atmosphere is Kol Oud Tof’s trademark. The classic repertory from Andalusia, the Jewish-Moroccan voices of this Liturgy and some more Spanish and Moroccan tunes and voices concur in this peculiar harmony. It is a musical adventure with a certain subtlety that takes it to unexplored emotional places.

Entre musique du monde et musiques actuelles, ce jeune iranien “aux semelles de vents et de peaux” nourrit son périple de ses rencontres intimes pour élaborer une oeuvre apaisante et miraculeuse. / At the tender age of 23, Bijan is attempting a mammoth task, a Homer’s Odyssey in Modern Music. It is a great journey that takes him along many stops-over: India, Iran, Central Africa, Maghreb, Greece and Provence! This young artist whose soles are said to be made of wind and drums skin draws his inspiration from the varied and intense encounters along the way of his great musical epic. The result is both soothing and miraculous.
