After the success of the 2015 edition, from March 16th to March 19th as part of Babel Med Music 2016, Babel Minots is back renewing its offer for the professionals with a stage for Young audiences dedicated to World Music. During 4 days at the Nomad Cafe and the Dock des Suds, the 2nd Babel Minots is an opportunity for professional meetings, performances and creations to raise awareness among the youth about global cultures.

A co-production between the Nomad Café (Marseilles) and Villes des Musiques du Monde (Seine-Saint-Denis).

With the support of Sacem and in partnership with the JM France, Babel Med Music, the MDM / IDF Collective and the FAMDT.

Babel Minots offers to regional stakeholders the opportunity to exchange and share an overview of their practices and draw prospects on the post “La Belle Saison”/ “the Beautiful Season”, announced by the Minister of Culture “to structure and develop the performing arts dedicated to children and the youth.”

03.30 p.m: Jukebox Made in EU: An interactive journey through a musical Europe, guided by Katerina Fotinaki Pascale Durand and Trifonia Angelidou. Présented by the Collectif Musiques & Danses du Monde in IDF and the support of the Sacem.

02:30 p.m: Mimi au pays de l’Ampoulélé / Mimi in the land of the bulbulele by Myriam Daups and Gérard Dahan. The fairy-tale story of Mimi and her magic potion, an inexhaustible source to explore the world and its sounds. Sacem stage for young audience.

THE SCREENS OF BABEL

Babel Med Music expands to a selection of movies and documentaries on world music illustrating cultural diversity, dialogue between cultures, heritage conservation, rare aesthetic and the latest news of global sound hubs. Part of the programming is done in collaboration with the CMCA (Mediterranean Centre for Audiovisual Communication) as part of the promotion of Primed and with the Music Department of the Alcazar Library (BMVR).

01:30 p.m: GIOVANNA MARINI, LA VOIX DES INVISIBLES  from ML Desideri and C. Argentino, 52 ‘, 2015 – France

Collecting the sacred, secular chants or those of social struggles of the 60s in Italy, Giovanna Marini places transmission at the heart of her activist approach, a result of her encounter with Pasolini.

With the hope of the Arab Spring, underground artists in the Middle East have joined the street protests and must now face the consequences.

After the destruction of a Roma and Bulgarian squat in Bordeaux in 2011, the authorities allow the families to rebuild their shacks where the Orchestra Chakaraka will be created.

Celebrating his career 25th anniversary, Miguel Poveda organizes on this occasion his most ambitious concert. Taking another look at the story of a star yet not destined for Flamenco.

SHOWCASE REGION PACA

Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region intended to highlight regional artists in Babel Med Music by allowing them access to a large audience as well as to professionals.

The Region wanted to highlight artists within the market by organizing a regional stage. 5 artists are programmed in this context, from 17th to 19th March and will perform on 20-minute showcases
followed by convivial moments orchestrated by the Region.

BABEL AWARDS 2016

Babel Med Music celebrates exceptional artists in World Music : during the opening ceremony of the Babel Med Music Festival, thursday 17th march, 4 prizes will be awarded to the best creative artists as well as the best artists in the category ‘talents without borders’.  

BABEL MED MUSIC & PROVENCE – ALPES – CÔTE D’AZUR REGION AWARD 2016

The Festival awards a prize to artists or professional persons within the field of music that has made an outstanding contribution to World Music.  

 ADAMI WORLD MUSIC AWARD 2016

Adami’s purpose is to manage the legal rights of the main performing artists in the music industry. It offers financial support to professionals from the artistic world, making it easier for new artists to get started and for the established ones to carry on working. The Adami prize is awarded during the Babel Med Music festival to a specially selected World Music artist.  

FRANCE MUSIQUE WORLD MUSIC AWARD 2016

The winner of the prize then goes on to record a CD with ‘Radio France Ocora Records’ the following year.  

TRANSATLANTIC BRIDGE PRIZE 2016

Winner 2nd edition : ALEJANDRA RIBERA (Quebec, Canada)

The “Transtlantic Bridge” prize was created to increase the circulation of artists between Europe and North America. The winner selected at Mundial Montreal will be given the opportunity to showcase as part of the official programming of Babel Med Music (vice versa).
THE PUPILS AND APPRENTICES FROM PROVENCE-ALPES-CÔTE D’AZUR AT BABEL MED MUSIC

Babel Med Music is a three day music festival where artists and professionals come from all over the world to share their music and traditions with the public: a unique event in France.

The Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur regional council – the main sponsor for Babel Med – has organised two days of events in collaboration with Latinissimo in order to introduce the world of entertainment to 600 pupils and apprentices.

BABEL ECO-RESPONSIBLE & WITH A SENSE OF SOLIDARITY

BABEL MED MUSIC :  AN ECO-RESPONSIBLE FESTIVAL

Babel Med Music is committed to a program of sustainable growth and eco responsibility that has an impact on the economic, human and social aspect of the event and of the organisation as a whole. As a result of this commitment, a host of questions about work ethics are discussed and debated both during the festival and throughout the rest of the year. Various actions are being undertaken regarding the following : transport – public transport, bicycle parking, shared driving pick-up spots; communication – for instance in the use of paperless communication whenever possible and in the use of recycled paper and vegetable inks; catering – reusable cups, recycling, recycled packaging; as well as the pooling of equipment and their energy saving policy.

BABEL MED WITH A SENSE OF SOLIDARITY

Babel Med Music has been a partner of the organisation called ‘Culture du Coeur’ for many years. ‘Culture du Coeur 13’ is an organisation whose aim is to fight against exclusion by encouraging easy access to culture for people from all horizons, especially the under-priviledged. As a result of this policy, Babel Med Music puts aside 150 free tickets. They also welcome with open arms organisations who work with young people in order to help with their integration in Society. These young people are being given work experience : preparing the stands, working on the desk and helping with security.
