Imzad's Saharan blues winds its way down the intoxicating tracks of the Tuareg's Tindi music, revealed by Tinariwen, like a caravan undulating along the crest of the sand dunes of Ahaggar and Tassili N'Ajjer in Southern Algeria. An Imzad is a single-string bowed instrument traditionally used by Tuareg people and by taking its name, the band proclaim their sense of belonging to a tradition that goes back centuries. Yet they don't hesitate to reinvent it by mixing bouncy rhythms with languid melodies, electric guitars with traditional tunes and songs boosted with hip hop. Comme une caravane qui ondoie aux sommets des dunes de l’Ahaggar et du Tassili N’Ajjer dans le Sud-Algérien, le blues saharien d’Izmad serpente sur les pistes enivrantes du tindi touareg révélé par Tinariwen. Paré du nom d’une ancestrale vielle monocorde targuie, l’Imzad, c’est bien guitares électriques à la main que ce jeune groupe revigore une culture séculaire glissant de rythmiques sautillantes en mélodies indolentes, de refrains traditionnels en chants dopés aux effluves hip hop. Un blues hypnotique, enjouée et méditatif, imprégné des envoûtants paysages du désert, au cœur du Kel l’Ahaggar…
