BADUME'S BAND & SELAMNESH ZÉMÉNÉ & ZENASH TSEGAYE
The Ethiopian jazz that ravishes the nights of Addis Abeba
  France - Ethiopia

Badume’s Band is an atypical band, a tireless groove machine which revisits Ethiopian musical treasures through hypnotic rhythms and soul inspired vocals.

Having made their musical debuts with the living legend Mahmoud Ahmed and played alongside him for several years, the intrepid Bretons took inspiration in the wild atmosphere of the 60s’ and 70s’ Addis Abeba to compose and play their own arrangements.

Badume’s Band have since grown to include the rising star Selamnesh Zémene and the dancer Zénash Tsegaye in their line up and bring back the golden age of Ethio-jazz, with its wild African nights.

    BONGA
The Angolan legend who is a Master of African music
    Angola

A star amongst the singing heroes from the black continent, Bonga was the first singer to interpret diva Cesaria Evora’s famous Sodade.

The mix between his deep and melancholic gravelly voice and his flamboyant personality created the perfect alchemy for over 30 years : a mix between a spirited anti-establishment personality and an acute political conscience, between polished musicality and the authenticity of ‘saudade’.
Throughout his lengthy career his music has been the reflection of a life that is consistently engaged politically as well as being marked by semba and Luso-African blues rhythms. He is the reference for modern Angolan music.
A legend.

    KAYHAN KALHOR & ERDAL ERZINCAN
The musical odyssey, both Turkish and Persian, on board the Orient Express
    Iran - Turkey

A dialogue between a maestro and a prodigy, between the timeless Iranian violin, the kamantché, and the baglama lute.
Their delicate exchange is like reaching the summit of Persian and Anatolian music. The classy label ECM got it right when it decided to add them to their label : praise indeed for this enchanting musical odyssey with its appeasing oriental jazz sounds and its golden instrumental partitions.
The Kurdish Iranian Kayhan Kalhor’s virtuosity and Erdal Erzincan’s sensitivity both express the infinite wealth of their ‘poetry of the wind and clouds’ : a light, sensitive, impalpable and extatic music.

Theirs is an elegant trip on board the celestial Orient Express...

KHAIRA ARBY
The Malian blues with its piercing song of the Amazone
  Mali

Khaïra Arby is a rare find in Northern Mali : a strong-minded woman, free of conventions, an advocate of the female cause and a musician.

An alter ego of Ali Farka Touré, she deploys her exceptional voice and as if by magic, the sand dunes of Timbuktu appear in front of us.

Like a caravan of sounds that follows the tracks of a desert blues, the songs are spoken in Songhaï, Tamasheq, Arab and Bambara.

The Saharian diva’s backing voices accompany the slow and languid rhythms to appease and stimulate us.

    KING KAPISI
The sharp and dizzying flow of a Samoan from New Zealand
    New Zealand

King Kapisi is a New Zealand native who was born on the Samoan islands. He practices a buzzing and engaged hip-hop with cutting beats and abrasive samples.

But the MC built his reputation on a unique sense of melody and an incandescent flow : exploring the themes of religion, colonialism, social realities as well as the transmission of knowledge and Samoan values that are at the heart of the Pacific.

King Kapisi jumps from fun to political protest and speaks an honest Polynesian rap language.

    SOFT
The Caribbean anger as well as their quiet strength
    Guadeloupe - France

The Guadeloupean band Soft is an authentic Caribbean phenomenon swinging between acoustic ballades and cool jazz, rocking between biguine and gwoka drums, flirting with zouk and roots whilst at the same time playing with nuances and refined arrangements.

The result is a finely orchestrated feat.
Behind this assumed mellowness however lie abrasive and even virulent texts.
They talk of the Caribbean identity, the inertia of young people today and of the problems of Guadeloupe.

This makes the band extremely famous on their island for spurring awareness and being both soft and harsh...
