FRIDAY 25 MARCHSATURDAY 26 MARCH

ROMA GYPSIES, GYPSIES AND MANOUCHES IN PROVENCE-ALPES-COTE D’AZUR REGION

Panel, Organized by Arcade
10:00 - 12:00

“We’ll have their music, but not them!” On the one hand there is a renewed interest in Gypsy’s music and culture-Gypsy music, Jazz Manouche, brass bands and tarafs, Gypsy voices, the registration of Flamenco at UNESCO World Heritage List- and on the other hand, increasing rejection and discrimination towards the Romani communities and the “travellers”!
Gypsy artists and French, Italian, Spanish, Romanian and Russian Romani, local organisations, researchers and regional councillors, will question together this paradox that also affects the Region Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur, traditionally a land of settlement as well as passage for many Gypsies and Romani of all origins.

With  : Armelle Audigane, Bari Bahtali, Marc Bordigoni, Claudio Cavallo Giagnotti, Festival Latcho Divano Fanfare Vagabontu, André Gabriel, Petit-à-Petit, Rencontres Tsiganes, Tchoune, Gaëlle Lenfant.

an introduction to ALBUM « MARCHEILLE-MARCHEILLE »
OF LOUIS WINSBERG

Presentation
10:30 - 11:30

«The present work is an ode to this beautiful city, a praise to its light and accent. MARCHeille fires up my imagination because it bears in itself a multiculturalism very similar to the one I have been into for years; multiculturalism that stems from both the streets and the Mediterranean sea.
The Mediterranean jazzman in me has always been interested in exploring these bridges, these byways, these potentialities that cross paths in the Phocaean city. I use the language of jazz as a “passport”’ opening the way to other shores, which will nurture our music. A port, a passport, perpetual movement, rhythm and people... this is MARCHeille!»

CULTURAL AND AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT, TOWARDS DEMOCRATISATION OF CULTURAL PRACTICES ?

Panel
15:00 - 17:00

Through multiple outreach initiatives, cultural democratisation programmes aim at devising integrative strategies to reach out to populations that have limited access to culture. Acknowledging the specific needs of these populations is now a fully integrated concern for most cultural workers.
How can we get this process of differentiation of our audience under way while continuing to build a common culture and preserving cultural quality? How can this cultural policy supports social cohesion, acknowledgement of the minorities, the fight against discriminations?
The objectives of this round-table will be firstly to explore the development and transformations of cultural practices and “consumption” and secondly to introduce various approaches to cultural outreach and relationship with the public in France and abroad

An introduction to ENSEMBLE MULTITUDES

Press conference
16:30 - 17:30

Meeting with Bruno Allary, Artistic Director of Ensemble Multitudes (Cie Rassegna – Zaman Fabriq – Anis del Mundo)

Two years after Zaman Fabriq has been selected by the jury during the Babel 2008, the French group brings out its very first album for this spring 2011. The artists arrange ancestral tunes and rythmes coming from the Balkans and the Middle-East with a lot of electric and urban colors, inviting the human beat-box and the saturated sounds of guitars to mix up with Egyptian Sufi songs and the Kaval Flute. This meeting aims at presenting the first eponymous album by Zaman Fabriq which is a lively and faithful reflection to the special atmosphere created successfully on stage by the group. It offers also an occasion to introduce the brand new structure of an artistic direction leading by the musician Bruno Allary since 2002 in MARCHeille. In 2010, the artist brings together all his projects within the Ensemble Multitudes : the Cie Rassegna, Zaman Fabriq and the duo Anis del Mundo. This new musical space ables Bruno Allary to develop his idea of crossing cultures and meeting the Other, by defending the point of view of a composite identity for the Mediterranean.
